RD Music Friday

Hey Royals!

It’s your girl MsKeaSunshine and I am happy to be back with the RD family. It’s a new year and we are moving forward with big plans for Royal Dynamite. In with the new and out with the old, and that’s where I come in! I’m so excited to be your official RD Music Fridays Contributor, bringing you the freshest, hottest, newest Royal music for your playlist.

This week’s artist, Elijah Blake, has written and sung soulful hooks from artists such as Usher and Rihanna to Keyshia Cole and Rick Ross. Making a name for himself as singer-songwriter, he is ready to take his talents to the next level. The newest member to the RocNation family, Elijah Blake recently released his 8-track EP, “Bijoux 22”. If you already downloaded the album, then you clearly have Royal taste in music! But for those of you who are looking for the next dope album to play over and over on repeat, then you should definitely take a listen to “Bijoux 22”.

Some of my favorite tracks are “Talk to Me,” “X.O.X” ft. Common, and “Everything”. If you like artists like Frank Ocean or Miguel, then add Elijah Blake to your list…he’s the real deal! Take a listen below and tell us what’s your favorite track of Elijah Blake’s EP “Bijoux 22” by tweeting @RoyalDynamite!

Happy Royal Listening!

The Top 5 RD Music Fridays Posts!

It’s the last Friday of the year, so it’s only right that we rounded up our Top 5 RD Music Fridays posts for 2012!

5: Andre 3000

image

Ranking in at #5 is Mr. “Ice Cold” Andre 3000! I guess people were intrigued by his internal battle of being a rapper or a movie superstar. What do you think he’s better at? http://bit.ly/W5y4W8

4: Miguel

image

Pulling in heavy at #4 was Latino heart-throb —Miguel. He surfaced a couple of years and disappeared for a while, but then his 2012 smash single “Love Adorn” brought him back for the first time! http://bit.ly/ZGjtsc

3: Nas and Lauryn Hill

image

Nas and Lauryn Hill toured the world this year and RD was there to catch a glimpse. The show was amazing, that it ranked them in at number 3. Life is GOOD! http://bit.ly/WMHCvE

2: Jay-Z and Beyonce

image

Ok, where do I start? They endorsed Barack Obama’s campaign, they took the media by storm with the birth of their first child — Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z assisted in moving the NETS to his hometown of Brooklyne, and set Rihanna up to rake in $90 million on her last world tour. They’re a power couple making power moves! That’s what landed this post at #2. Bonnie and Clyde! http://bit.ly/RlxFC3

1: Justin Bieber

image

Kudos to Rick Ross for this line, “We got Justin Bieber please BELIEVE it!”. The kid got the cover of FORBES, he made Forbes’ Celebrity Top 100 List, invested in multiple tech companies, and launched hit radio singles with the likes of rap superstars Big Sean! As co-founder Cecil stated, “[We’re] not the biggest Justin Bieber fans, but Usher’s viral protege was all over the place in 2012 and that’s what landed this post at #1. http://bit.ly/SyzBYL

Be on the lookout for more in-depth #RDMusicFridays posts in 2013. Until then, any suggestions?

Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Dr.Dre on ‘3 Kings’ or ‘2 Kings and a Prince’?!?

Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Dr.Dre release new single, “3 Kings” and Rozay has classified this as the “the biggest collaboration in Hip Hop.”  Dr. Dre even brands “3 Kings” as “classic hip-hop.”

Although the song stands as a testament to Ross’ growth according to MTV.com, has he grown enough to call himself a King?

In 2006 with the debut, Port of Miami, and its follow-up, Trilla, the King of Maybach would not have even dreamed of placing both Dr. Dre and Jay-Z on a single track. However, its now 2012 and not only has he collaborated with Kings Jay-Z and Dr.Dre but he had the guts to name the track “3 Kings.” Should this song really be titled “2 Kings and Prince”?

He could very well be a King considering that he is only 36 with a net worth of 25 million (US). Through Maybach he has also helped build the career of artists such as Meek Mill and Wale.

All hail the kings or 2 kings and a prince?!?

Who would you crown King of “3 Kings” based on the verses? Let us know in the comments!

Be sure to buy the album as it drop July 31!

Welcome To #RDMusicFridays!

Creative energy is spurned and inspired by many different sights, experiences and moments, especially when drawing from the environment around you. And nothing can be truer than the energy we draw from music and how that music is intricately woven into our everyday lives.

If you were to look at some of the songs that make up the DNA of Royal Dynamite, you would find everything from Notorious B.I.G.’s “It Was All Dream” - which speaks to the quest of achieving your dreams and the struggle/hustle of being a young entrepreneur - to Chris Brown’s “Beautiful People,” which gets us hyped whenever we do a runway show.

Yes, music, no pun intended, is the very fabric of our lives and now we want to hear what sounds and artists inspire you. Every second Friday of the month, Royal Dynamite will host “RDMusicFridays,” which serves to highlight what music is not only inspiring our creative process, but also inspiring our ardent fans as well. Featuring music from new and upcoming artists as well as playlists built by our readers, RDMusicFridays will not only function as a music community for Royal Dynamite fans, but also give them the power to express themselves to the world with one of the most powerful tools: MUSIC.

Reader submissions will be carefully considered and added to a new playlist each month, building a unique sound that readers can enjoy and share with their fellow RD fans. Or if you know of an up and coming artist who you would like to see featured, share their music with us for consideration for a future RDMusicFriday post or playlist.

We want to hear from you! Pick out your favorite songs that make up the soundtrack of your creative process and share them with us. In the meantime, check out this month’s featured playlist featuring a few songs that get our creative juices going here at Royal Dynamite!

1) “Work Hard, Play Hard!” — Wiz Khalifa

2) “Money” — Pink Floyd

3) “Changes” — 2Pac

4) “He Got Game” — Public Enemy

5) “Rich Forever” — Rick Ross
